Detect Online Poker Tells Tutorial
In poker lingo, a "tell" is a subtle shift in a player's behaviour, which, if detected, opponents may use to give clues as to a particular player's assessment of his own hand of cards. Although paying attention to the hidden messages that tells give about can be a useful technique for many players who know how know to read them, its only one of the many tools that a player should have at their disposal in a game play situation, and is by no means a perfect or foolproof method.
The golden rule and the key to understanding tell detection is very simple: strong is weak and weak is strong. This particular principle means refers to players' tendencies to attempt to convince their opponents that they are holding a strong hand when the cards that they have are actually weak, and vice versa.
Other clues that a player is trying to conceal information about their hand are even subtler and often tend to be physical in nature. An opponent with a good hand may unconsciously "protect" his cards by holding them close to his body or the table, while over confidence and shifty eyes are classic signs that a player may be attempting to compensate for a weak hand.
Online tells are certainly less obvious than physical poker clues, but players are able to draw discreet information from their opponent's behaviour when playing poker online.
